WOMB TV THE UNISOUND PROJECT Every Tuesday Night from 10pm - 12am EST Hosted by Tarazz & Dose the Alien
NEW BROADCAST LINK http://live.primestream.com/womb.video.wm.80
Pirate Radio Roots What was once an underground traditional radio station launched in 1996, The Womb initially was shut down three time by the Federal Communications Commission. “We did all kinds of crazy things to keep it up, we put it in somebody’s apartment that was far away and broadcast the signal through the internet to that apartment and then broadcast it from the apartment so that they wouldn’t come our studio,” recalls Duncan Ross, the Womb’s president and one of its founders. Before joining as the station’s chief executive officer/executive director, John Westley tuned into the popular local radio broadcast from his Miami Beach condo. “I thought it was a huge drug bust. They had like 10 squad cars and 50 cops and agents there, raiding this little pirate station,” Westley says. “The streets were all closed and I couldn’t even get to my place. I was wondering why I was getting such great reception inside my condo and it was only one block away, that’s why.”
Global Multi-Media Pioneers In the long run, The FCC provided an unintentional assist by forcing The Womb to seek alternative creative outlets just as the internet online revolution was being launched. The station was chosen as the only live DJ mix broadcast for original Real G2, which was the internet's first distributed media player. Taking a year to get a group of private investors together to fund the operation, Westley provided seed money to nurture ongoing growth. As broadband developed, The Womb added visual artist mixes to a revolving line-up of 55 world class DJs that spin electronic dance music genres from drum and bass to house to acid jazz. It became the first 24/7 live multimedia television station and now carries Internet audiences of 1.5 million each month across 120 countries. “We have diligently worked on turning it into a viable business instead of an on the run pirate station. The Womb always has had great music, DJs, artists and talent but if the FCC’s chasing you around that’s no way to run a business or provide consistent club dance music to fans” Westley says. With the launch of 24/7 live VJ/DJ multimedia mixes and In.TheWomb.com mobile/cellular networks, The Womb continues to develop and support artist expression on a global basis. |

Posted - 01/20/2009 : 11:33:50 PM Sounds good! Video is bizarre, but the music is delicious. :) Wish I was hanging out there right now, instead of getting rested for work tomorrow. Bet it's warmer... |

Posted - 01/08/2009 : 12:55:35 PM Yeah they are still working the bugs out of the new system. The Matrix was probably a poor choice as its a pretty dark movie. Maybe next week I'll use something animated like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. |

Posted - 01/08/2009 : 12:22:57 PM Yeah, the video feed was the best I've ever seen. Not big on the graphics, but liked the Matrix movie playing in the background. Well Done. |

Posted - 12/24/2008 : 02:52:24 AM yeah the video feed sucks at the moment but the station manager says the reason the video feed is so poor is that on average over 15,000 people per hour tune in. They are working on getting some new sponsors to help pay for the bandwidth needed. Right now the only major sponsor they have is Red Bull. |
