Back before tracktor came out, i heard a plastikman set with serato, he played 80 TRACKS in 60 minutes... not my cup of tea as far beats go, but the guy paints an awesome poicture over the course of a set...

as far as specs for me on sl go, got a gamers box, 3 gig of ram, 300gb sata 3.0 10000 rpm hd, core 2 duo 3.0 ghz BEAST at home (built for total of $700), and a P4, 2.8 ghz, 1.5 gig ram freshly built (for the price of the RAM!) for the road... I was REALLY skeptical about the laptop, but i played on it for 4 hours with out a hiccup... just gotta watch the temp on ALL laptops, and just keep unit u use off the internet.. AND i always bring the disks/vinyl with me to do a full re-install, and/or the mp3 files to do a cdj (ugh) performance

With all that being said, and having used both SSL and tracktor, tracktor tracks and holds true to vinyl better, but the difference is negligiable and the sofware interface of SSL far and away makes the transition from vinyl to digital MUCH easier than tracktor.. although the integrated BEATPORT store in tracktor is uber cool

Fact: PvD used to carry 2 laptops around with him. One just for FS, the other to do work. His FS (version 1) was so touchy that _nothing_ else could be on it.

Fact: DJ Craze threatened to kill (seriously injure, but not seriously kill) a Native Instrument rep at a FS party after it kept crashing on him.

Fact: Show up to a party your playing after the gears been setup and it all has to be unhooked just to accommodate you. Oh did you wait until the DJ in front of you was on to bring that little nugget up? Well now there's dead air in the middle of a party. Oh, use the vinyl? The needles are MAD touchy.

Fact: DJs that didn't learn the art of spinning first and just jumped to this, generally suck. I'll rock your face on any system laptop, vinyl, CDs. 100% panty dropper, no excuses.

FLAME ON! :-) I love this!

And Scooby wins 5 points! hah

I have Serato, I bought a dell optiplex mini tower to run at home. i upgraded my ram and nothing else. My system runs fine. i have never had a problem with it crashing or anyting like that. I know tracktor and final scratch need more ram memory to run. 516 but I have 2 gigs.

I've thought of the issue of using my everyday laptop playing out. It would be just my luck that in the middle of a huge mix I get rick rolled.

yo - I use TRAKTOR and it is the shit. I learned how to mix by myself with my laptop and midi controller (no vinyl). I would highly recommend it to anyone who digs electronic music.

And everyone I know who learned on vinyl uses Serato now or Traktor scratch when they gig out. The benefit of Serato is that the software is free and available for download (It's the hardware that costs $$). More and more bars have serato so you can just hook up your laptop and use their hardware. Had I known beforhand, I would have probably gone this route...but I'm pretty happy with traktor tho.

I'm a big fan of raver type techno, Hawtin is definitely the man. But he is edgy and does push the sound forward so I can see where that would be off-putting to some people.

gotta drop a line on this one....RITCHIE HAWTIN (PLASTIKMAN) can be boring if you are d/l'ing a live mix but you really have to be there to experience what a dj can do using track selection as his main weapon and in this respect Hawtin is the man. Noone does it better. I can make an argument for Mirco or Tall Paul, but i love Hawtin.

Andy C ....elite. I F*CKING HATE his MC though. HATE, HATE, HATE. He ruins every live mix i ever d/l from Andy C. The MC should NOT be the spotlight when you are as talented as Andy C and I am no jump-up fanatic. F*ck a "REEEWIND" every 30 seconds. I'll shoot babies. No lie
