So what is it about the pulsing basslines, cartoonish rhythms, sped up r&b/pop samples and fast paced melodies that make people cringe when they hear the genre being talked about or played??
Or is it just the overwhelming amount of young people who come out with all the candy jewelry and cuddle puddles and stuffed toys that erks the average new yorker??
Or is there another reason

So.. Happy 2B Hardcore was the first EDM album I listened to while..
and I guess that counts for something? lol grew out of it quickly, but I really don't mind it too too much.. George Who Spin Records was really good @ Quikk Fixx last year, and music is certainly subjective so who am I to say what is good and bad. |

Happy 2B Hardcore Chapter 3 - FTW. Got some *very* happy memories attached to that album, and believe it or not, I can still listen to it without cringing! I doubt anyone else around me could handle it, though... I am sure the negative response to playing HH (in most cases) would rival that of dubstep. I also grew out of it rather quickly, and can't handle much of it, but I don't HATE the genre. I guess there will always be a teeny tiny bit of "candy kid" in me. *shrug*

I thought it was gay that they tried renaming the genre to UK hardcore in some instances since i really can't tell the difference.
But the genre itself is still full of win to me. Love hearing someone who plays it well do a good job and alot of the new tracks that are coming out are pretty solid and a little less cheesy than the happy 2b hardcore stuff.
I saw someone dropping a solid set at Pyroglyphics in CT before it got shut down and it really took me back. Just all the kids jumping around with their hands in the air having fun and enjoying themselves. Made me wish I was 19 again, haha. |

| Eric be proud ur the only Dj I can put up with that plays hardcore. I typically hate the genre mostly for the annoying candy kids but u have managed to open up my eyes to stuff BELOW the 220 bpm range. |

I just call it hardcore but I think UK Hardcore is more proper. Around 2002/2003 was when it stopped being as happy as the old school stuff. Yeah, there are still cheesy tracks but for the most part it is not that comparable to older stuff.
You should know that hardcore is not dead at all. Gomer, Mikey Parkay and Dose are booked for a huge hardcore party in DC in April. My all time favorite DJ, Luna-C, is playing too. |
