We would like to let you in on a secret that should confirm your original assumption. “Art Is Atrocity” is a satirical conceptual art piece, meant to draw attention to the lack of art and music in school by personifying a radical side of fanatics who are against said subjects as a whole. Everything you have seen on the website was designed and placed with a purpose, whether that means the horrendous web design to the style of writing to the ironic title of the organization. This satirical piece was meant to start a conversation and get you thinking about how valuable art and music are to us as a whole. So, in a way, we did create an ironic art piece.

> As you may have already realized, schools all across the United States are forced to cut many fine arts classes, as well as sports, other extracurricular activities, afterschool programs, and even math, science, language arts, etc. Everything is being affected, and we need to change this.

Art and music have a profound effect on all of us, and can serve a great purpose in our lives. However, over the years, we have been losing this in our education system, as they have been seen as almost secondary courses. Yet, we are now at a time where education as a whole is being depleted, and we need the arts more than ever.

This piece was meant to draw your attention and get you engaged which you have done on a spectacular level. If you are wondering why we didn’t just come out and support the fine arts, our argument would be that we wouldn’t have receive such wonderful, heartfelt reactions, and people would not be as involved as you are right now. When someone is against something you love and cherish and is trying to take that away, you become very passionate and will put up a valiant fight. We need more of that today.

With that said, would you be willing to give us permission to use your message in the project as it progresses? We would not give out personal information – if anything it would only be your first name and last initial.

We implore you not to be disheartened or upset about this satirical discovery, as The Atrocity does not seem to fall far from the fanatic tree in a sense. When you think about that, it’s sad to think that an organization could be against art, and could also be believable in today’s society. We encourage you to keep the message about art education alive and going, even after this discovery.

We would also like to keep this dialogue between us open if that is okay with you, as engagement and conversation is often the key to successful pieces of art, as well as in all other areas of life. Not to mention, it keeps things mighty interesting. Feel free to contact us with other thoughts or insights you wish to share.
