I don't know why people have their panties in a twist. Bitching about MCs at a party is like bitching about bikers at Sturgis. Don't want to be around them, don't show up.
Anyway, I had a blast, kudos to anyone and everyone involved. The party was nuts.
It's refreshing to see the broken beats creep out of the broom closet and into the main arena during the last couple of parties. I've been going to events for the last 10 years and the 4/4 music has always held the main room unless it was a strict genre event. Seems like things come in cycles. I want to ride the broken beat wave for as long as I can, because some day we'll be back in the broom closet again.
Again, to all involved, thanks for flipping the script on the music scene. Keep it fresh and keep it alive. |

& if people do have preferences being rude bout it doesnt seem the best way to approach the "problem" which ultimately isnt that big of a deal.

| ahhh u kids are silly. again entitled to my OPINION, which is all it is. They still killed it most the night, just not my cup of tea at times. Now who are the ones sounding like chumps attacking a review? |

I completely agree.. If an MC is booked for an act- that's one thing, or if they are the "host" for the night, def. give shout outs and hype the crowd. But if there is a DJ spinning who didn't request an MC over the top of it, and the MC does so w/o asking- it is a faux pas. Much like I would be in the wrong if I went up to Sean Place while he was spinning a set and pushed him out of the way and put in a track to spin.
I would say that most MC's know this stuff already- and we have some great ones in upstate. but I've seen a few instances where they get carried away or don't think about it. |

Last I checked this was the reviews section where we were allowed to give out some constructive criticism. If someone said you over did it on the mic and had nothing to say - maybe you could listen and develop a different strategy? If most of the crowd liked it? What's some knobs on the internet have to do w/ it anyway?

I personally would only let an MC on my set if I knew them and their style. It's no secret that the older crowd (me) dislikes most MCs, however the ones that actually bring it (Scatter is definitely one) they really add to the set.
There's a difference in rapping w/ the music v. rapping over it. If a tune already has vocals, stfu. |

My two cents:
1st. Killer Party and tx Mikey for having me bring some sound for ya.
2nd. Big issuse with having my sound in the smoking room. My van still smells like an ashtray from my equipment being in the 3rd room. Doors open to patio and heaters are a must in winter.
3rd. I absoulutley love the mc'ing over the dj. If its St8cyde doing thier thing or Sean Place beefing up the crowd on the mic, it brings so much more of a "LIVE" show than the jocks spinning the tunes. Go to clubs in the City and there is the mc giving shout-out's for birthdays, tipping bartenders, announcing the next jock...so mc'ing is a must! Only problem that I see occasionally is mc's grabbing the mic at the head and not the shaft(guys, stop blushing), and they come out all muffled. Note to mc's, stop working the head and rock the shaft. (not trying to offend )
I'd like to see more Sean Place's of the world on the mic, being informative, beefing up the crowd so that when the real mc's get on, the transition would be more smoother rather than BAM heres the mc/spitter/rapper or whatever. Keep up the great work and love that St8cyde shit! |

I agree on the shaft not the head part (no homo) tough situation though when the mic is never properly put into the mix so you have to hold it like that to be heard, and if one MC is cuffing the head and the other isn't it's another situation where you can't hear it as well; The main problem lies in the sound, when the music being played is so full and fills so many frequencies, such as drum and bass, its tough to fit anything else in the mix, so what you do is send the microphone to their own speakers, and mix it in the room, rather than trying to fit it in the overall mix.... This is how they do it in the UK and Toronto, and is why their MCs don't have this problem; I was speaking to Bryan Gee about this Sunday morning and he confirmed my theory |

thanks dude! I agree that MC's definatly have their place. I love hearing some feedback from someone even if its just to announce people or get the crowd hype with a buildup. I think a lot of people are misunderstanding anything I was trying to say because Im getting a lot of people commin back at me as asking questions... I like MC's but some are better then others, I for one like the music, I dont like listening to someone yell into the mic for 3 hours constantly, you have to take breaks. The MC is just as important as the tracks being played unless your one of those people that keep asking for the mic to be turned up so you cant even hear the music... On another note, if the MC is booked for the party and is working the whole thing. yeah ok. If your booked with an act stick to that act unless someone else wants you to do your thing. Its disrespectful to interfere with someones set and most likely it wont sound right... Thats my 2 cents. |
